The Oscar J. Tomas Charitable Trust Mentorship Program is one of the most rewarding aspects of the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour for both older and younger tour members. The mentors use their knowledge and experience of the game of golf and apply it to their younger mentees. With a mentor at each player's side, the 9-hole round is a tremendous learning opportunity for younger players, especially when it comes to course management, etiquette and pace of play.

What are mentors' responsibilities?
Mentors accompany junior golfers during Thursday rounds and provide guidance on rules, etiquette, course management, and pace of play. Mentors may offer basic advice, such as distance information, but they do not serve as coaches, select clubs, carry bags, or communicate coaching instructions from parents. Golfers are responsible for keeping their own scores, while mentors verify scores after each hole. One or two mentors will be assigned to each group.

What role do parents play during tournaments?
Parents may provide encouragement, food, and water and may assist with lost balls or inclement weather situations. However, parents may not act as caddies, coaches, or scorekeepers. Spectators should remain on the cart path and maintain a reasonable distance from players around the green.

When will I receive my mentorship tee time?
Registered mentors will receive an email on Wednesday afternoon with their Thursday tee time and player pairing. All 9-hole tee times are scheduled between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.

Where do I go on my assigned mentorship day?
Mentors should check in at the main registration table 30 minutes before their tee time and arrive at their assigned tee box 10 minutes before their round begins.

What if I cannot attend my assigned mentorship day?
Please notify us at least two days before the tournament so we have time to find a replacement mentor.
How is the mentorship program connected to the KGF Scholarship Program?
Junior golfers must complete at least three mentorship days and participate in at least three KGJGT Monday events to be eligible to apply for a Kelly Gibson Foundation scholarship.

What should I wear on my assigned mentorship day?
Mentors are required to wear appropriate golf attire, including a KGJGT polo and KGJGT hat, during their assigned mentorship round.
